(AUDIO SOUND: Fast orchestral action music.)
NARRATOR: The dark portal pulled us down.
"Aurelia, take my hand!" Caelan shouted.
He didn't draw his sword against me. He reached out and pulled me away from the edge of the pit. He chose to protect me.
"Uncle Hector, why?!" I screamed.
"Because the Syndicate destroyed our legacy!" Hector yelled back, his eyes glowing dark purple. "I traded our relics to the Shadow Realm for dark power! I will rebuild our court myself!"
"By killing innocent people?" I asked.
"Power takes sacrifice!" Hector roared.
He attacked Caelan. Caelan blocked the strike with his sword, but Hector’s dark magic was too strong. With one heavy blow, Hector threw Caelan against the stone wall. Caelan collapsed, his sword sliding away.
Hector turned his dark blade toward Caelan's heart. "First the commander dies. Then I take your Sun Magic."
I stopped hiding. I let the gold fire cover my arms, glowing like the morning sun.
"Step away from him," I commanded.
NARRATOR: Hector lunged at me.
I threw a wave of golden light against his blade. The room shook. Dust rained down from the ceiling.
"You are weak, Aurelia!" Hector yelled, pushing his blade closer. "Just like your father!"
"My father had honor!" I shouted back.
Suddenly, Caelan moved. He grabbed a heavy silver spear from the floor and drove it into Hector.
(AUDIO SOUND: Glass shattering, magical boom.)
The dark portal closed instantly, cutting off Hector's magic. His dark sword turned to dust.
Hector fell to the floor, defeated and unconscious.
Silence filled the vault.
I stood there, breathing heavily as the gold fire faded from my hands. Caelan walked over to me slowly. He had a cut on his face, but his eyes were soft.
"Are you hurt?" he asked gently.
I looked down. "I lied to you. I have illegal magic. I am a criminal to your people."
Caelan reached out and gently touched my face, making me look into his eyes.
"The law says wild magic is dangerous," Caelan whispered. "But tonight, your magic saved my life. You are not a threat, Aurelia. You are a gift."
A heavy weight lifted off my heart. For the first time in ten years, I felt safe.
(AUDIO SOUND: Warm, hopeful acoustic melody.)
NARRATOR: Uncle Hector was taken away by Syndicate guards to face trial. The dark threat to our land was gone.
Three days later, the sun rose brightly over our valley.
I stood on the castle balcony, watching the green grass grow along the hills. Caelan walked up beside me, holding an official scroll.
"My army is leaving today," Caelan said quietly. He handed me the parchment. "This is a royal order. I am returning full ownership of this court to you and your sister."
I looked at him in shock. "You are giving us our home back?"
"You earned it," Caelan smiled softly. "And... I hope to visit often. If you will allow a Night Commander into your court."
I smiled back and took his hand. His fingers wrapped warm around mine.
"I think we can make an exception for you, Lord Thorne," I said.
The enemy who came to conquer my home had given me my future back. And together, we were ready for a new dawn.
